Fort Frances Mayor June Caul opened up last night's council meeting by acknowledging the recent tragedy in Nova Scotia.

“On behalf of town council, staff and our community, I would like to extend my profound sympathy to the residents of Nova Scotia, who are suffering through the despicable tragedy that happened last week,” she said.

Meth traffickers arrested in Dryden

(DRYDEN, ON) -On April 25, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Dryden Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 in Machin Township.

As a result of the traffic stop and further investigation, officers located approximately 15 grams of methamphetamine inside of the vehicle.

Three days of declines in new cases

TORONTO — Ontario reported 525 more COVID-19 cases Tuesday, ending several days in a row of declines in new cases and likely pushing back any reopening of the province's economy.

Kenney visits Fort McMurray

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says he toured the damage caused by flooding in Fort McMurray and the province is ready to help.

He and Environment Minister Jason Nixon went to northern Alberta on Monday afternoon.

The city's entire downtown is under an evacuation order due to high water caused by spring ice breakup on the Athabasca and Clearwater rivers.

Elementary teachers ratify deal

TORONTO — Ontario's elementary teachers have ratified their new contract with the provincial government.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario says 97 per cent of its teacher members voted in favour of the three-year deal.

It will see teachers get salary increases of one per cent a year for three years, and four per cent annual increases to benefits.
