Norbord workers in favour of new deal

In voting held yesterday, 135 members of Unifor Local 324-99 voted 85 percent in favour of a new five-year collective agreement with Norbord covering its Oriented Strand Board (OSB) mill in Barwick.

Final chance to join cantata

It's your last chance to sing in this year's Easter cantata.

The Fort Frances Choraliers will hold their second practice for “Redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb” this Monday (March 5) at 7 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship (1301 Mill Rd.)

“If they want to get in, they need to get in now,” choir director Diane Maxey said yesterday.

In fact, it now is located in Emo. It formerly was located in Stratton.

Driver facing charges

The Sioux Lookout OPP conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Fourth Avenue there.

The driver of the vehicle was a 39-year-old male from Sioux Lookout.

He was found to be impaired from the consumption of alcohol and arrested.

Distracted driving is of particular concern to the OPP as distraction-related collisions in its jurisdiction continue to rise.

Lakers blanked by Stars

The Thunder Bay North Stars broke open a scoreless game with three third-period goals en route to a 3-0 win over the Fort Frances Lakers on Tuesday night at the Fort William Gardens.

Thunder Bay outshot Fort Frances 33-14 after 40 minutes but they couldn't beat Lakers' goalie Ismael Ralsten.

Muskie girls win opener

A three-goal outburst in the opening five minutes was all the Muskie girls' hockey team needed to skate to a 4-1 win over the Dryden Eagles in the opener of their best-of-three NorWOSSA final last night at the Ice For Kids Arena.

Jillian Calder notched a pair of goals while captain Annalise (CC) Hayes also scored and added two helpers to pace the Muskie offence.
