Town supports 'Tour de Fort' with sponsorship

Town council showed its support for local arts and culture after approving a “Tour de Fort” sponsorship for the 2017-18 season.

Council agreed to a recommendation from the Administration & Finance executive committee to be a “Silver” level sponsor, in the amount of $500, during its regular meeting last night.

'Canes open season with win

A rematch of last year's championship final was the featured game as the Rainy River District Women's Fastball League opened its new season yesterday evening.

And the Fort Frances Her-icanes again came out on top against the Red Gut Babes—this time by a score of 21-16.

Jean Richards believes good things come in small packages. Richards, who is the “Artist of the Month" for May at the Fine Line Art Gallery on Mowat Avenue, has a new exhibit of miniature paintings on display there entitled "In a Small Way." The galllery's "Then and Now” exhibit also continues through the end of this month.

Final Hydro One shares on block

TORONTO—The Ontario government is selling what it expects to be its final offering of shares in Hydro One—a move it says could raise more than $3 billion for the province.

The government and Hydro One said they have entered into an agreement with a syndicate of underwriters for the offering on a bought-deal basis of some 120 million common shares.

Quebec flood levels dropping

MONTREAL—Flood levels gradually are dropping in Quebec, particularly in the western part of the province, Public Security minister Martin Coiteux said today.

But Coiteux said Quebecers must be realistic and realize things will not return to normal for sometime.

Bones of First World War soldier ID'd

WINNIPEG—A lost First World War soldier, whose remains were discovered nearly six years ago outside a French village, has been identified as a young private from Manitoba.

Pte. Reginald Joseph Winfield Johnston, of Fairford, Man., was identified through a review of historical facts, forensic evidence, and DNA testing.
