Monica Sus, organizer of this year’s “Spirit of Christmas” hosted by the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary, put the finishing touches on this gift basket donated by Dr. Cam Moorhouse. The event will feature refreshments, a silent auction, a knitting table, and will take place Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at La Place Rendez-Vous. Admission is $5.

Paying to park back in effect

If you’ve been parking recently at the Portage Avenue lot behind the post office, be aware: you’ve once again got to pay to park there.

Local bylaw enforcement officer Patrick Briere told the Times that the pay and display parking machine is back in working order and will start enforcing illegally-parked vehicles there.

Anna Peters entered a draw to win one of two $50 gift certificates at Northwoods Gallery and Gifts last night during “Girls’ Night Out” on Scott Street. A number of downtown businesses participated in the promotion, with stores staying open until 8 p.m. and offering tax-free sales, as well as other discounts and deals, giveaways, refreshments, and draws.

Unifor contract ratified

A new three-year contract between Unifor Local 324-14 and the District of Kenora Home for the Aged at Princess Court has been ratified by 80 percent of 120 Unifor members.

“Unifor members in Dryden were pleased with the solid monetary gains and language improvements achieved in this new contract,” said Stephen Boon, Unifor national representative in Dryden.
