Bump on the road

Corban Galusha of the Robert Moore Mustangs took more than a passing fancy in getting this bump over the net during the Gord Savoy Classic in Atikokan—the first event in the Rainy River District Athletic Association’s volleyball season. The Mustangs made it to the Grade 7 boys’ final before losing to the St. Patrick’s Stars.

Funding for roads, bridges hiked up

Fort Frances and the surrounding district will be getting more funds for upgrades to roads, bridges, and other local community infrastructure in the future.

Soccer pitch gets vandalized

The Rainy River District OPP responded to a mischief at the soccer pitch on McIrvine Road yesterday.

Officers are looking for assistance in locating the person(s) responsible for damaging the fields used by many members of the public.

An unknown motor vehicle drove onto to the fields, causing significant damage.

The event also featured baking and candy tables, a cookie walk, meat pies, cabbage rolls, perogies, and numerous draws.

Muskie runners solid at OFSAA

In this instance, however, the time was more important than the place.

The Muskie cross-country running team sent two reps to the OFSAA championships in Port Hope on Saturday, with Tori Toriseva coming in 164th out of 284 in the 3.2K Midget girls’ race with a clocking of 14:18.

Lakers snap skid

It’s not possible to book the same team for an entire regular season, but the Fort Frances Lakers certainly wouldn’t turn down the chance when it comes to the Minnesota Iron Rangers.

Ryan Wagner made 40 stops as the Lakers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over the Iron Rangers in SIJHL action Friday night at the Ice For Kids Arena.
