Eric Fagerdahl revealed the item he’s donating for auction at the Friends of the Museum’s annual fall gala tonight—a handmade wooden cooler featuring a “49 Canadian” decal and vintage bottle opener. The fifth-annual wine-and-cheese fundraiser will take place from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Christmas parade date, theme set
Santa Claus is coming to town.
The 2016 “Community Christmas Parade” is set for Saturday, Nov. 26, with this year’s theme being “Songs of Christmas.”
The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. at Reid Avenue and proceed west along Scott Street, ending at Mowat Avenue (the public is asked to stay off Reid Avenue and watch the parade from Scott Street).
Rehearsing routine

Fort High students rehearsed the ABBA tune “Mamma Mia” last week during a rehearsal for the upcoming annual musical revue. Entitled “The Evolution of Music,” the show runs tonight through Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre. Tickets, which cost $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors, are available in advance at Northwoods Gallery & Gifts.
Sidewalk cafes being eyed here
Some downtown restaurants may start providing outdoor seating during the summer months.
The idea is to develop street cafes in conjunction with the new Rainy Lake Market Square.
Existing Scott Street restaurants would have seating on the sidewalk outside their businesses so patrons could enjoy food and beverages in the open air.

Members of the Fort Frances High School Student Leadership Council dropped off an estimated 1,000-plus non-perishable food items at Sunset Country Ford yesterday. The students collected items door-to-door on Hallowe’en for the dealership’s “We Scare Hunger” food drive.
Men’s hoops underway
After a month of warm-up games, some re-shuffling of teams, and an influx of new players (young and old), the Fort Frances Men’s Basketball League opened its season Tuesday.
While the low scores may attest to some of the rustiness of the players, there was good energy on the court and an excitement to be back playing meaningful games.
