Times sells to new owner
After 85 years of Cumming family ownership, the Fort Frances Times was sold to London Publishing on Thursday (Oct. 3).
Not much will change at the Fort Frances Times. It will continue to print four days a week and all 30 of its employees are being maintained.
Muskie hoops squads claim bronze in T-Bay
It's always nice to come away with some hardware, which both Muskie girls' basketball teams were able to do over the weekend at the annual Tiger Fall Classic tournament in Thunder Bay.
Both the juniors and seniors claimed bronze at the tourney, battling hard and representing Fort High well in each game.
Two teams tops in women's v-ball action
No Diggity racked up the maximum nine points available in Fort Frances Women's Volleyball League action on Thursday night.
They claimed straight-set wins over Calm Yo Tips twice before ending the night with a sweep of Bumping Uglies.
Serves You Right was also perfect with straight-sets wins over both Setsy Bits and the Gillons' Cougars.
Muskies roll to third straight win
The good times keep on rolling for the Muskie football team.
The Muskies scored two touchdowns in the third quarter en route to routing the Tec Voc Hornets 32-0 on Friday afternoon in their annual Winnipeg High school Football League Homecoming game at Fort High.
It was the third straight win for the black-and-gold, who improved to 3-1 in the six-team Currie Division ('A').
Lane leads Lakers over Ice Dogs
Jack Lane had a pair of power-play goals while Nick Swain and MacKenzie Flett both had three-point nights as the Fort Frances Lakers dumped the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 6-2 Friday night in SIJHL action at Dryden's Memorial Arena.
Jaxon Krupa knocked in his first SIJHL goal on a goal-mouth scramble at 2:16 to open the scoring for the hosts.
Muskie runners shine in Kenora
The Muskie cross-country team has served notice that they are a huge threat this NorWOSSA season.
The 30-member contingent that Fort High sent to the annual Evergreen Classic meet in Kenora on Thursday ran strongly and each athlete finished within the top 20 of their respective race.

Laurentian University liaison officer Edréa Fechner, left, spoke with Naomi Dunn and Roman Spuzak during the University Information Presentation held at Fort Frances High School on Friday. More than 20 different universities set up tables in the large gym to help prospective students learn about their programs and other facets of post-secondary life at their campuses.

Muskie quarterback Brady Meeks tucked the ball in and looked to rush it down the field while Sean Huziak looked on during Fort High's 32-0 win over the Tec Voc Hornets in its annual Homecoming game on Friday afternoon here. The Muskies improved to 3-1 in the WHSFL's Currie Division ('A') with the win.
Hockey event
Fort Frances Girls'/Women's Hockey Association players helped to pass on all of their knowledge to the newcomers during an Esso Fun Day program held at the '52 Canadians Arena on Saturday morning. The event was held in conjunction with the IIHF's World Girls' Hockey Weekend and helped to bring the game to girls who may have never played it before.

President's Choice infant formula recalled
OTTAWA—Loblaw Companies Ltd, is recalling its President's Choice brand Lower Iron milk-based powdered infant formula due to possible contamination by Cronobacter bacteria.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said the product was sold in stores across the country in 900 gram packages with a best before date of Aug. 29, 2021.
CUPE strike averted
TORONTO—Education Minister Stephen Lecce said he remains optimistic about ongoing teacher contract talks after averting an education workers' strike over the weekend.
He says that in reaching a deal with the union representing 55,000 education workers important lessons have been learned which can be applied to other contract talks.
Islanders beat Jets
UNIONDALE, N.Y.—The New York Islanders relied heavily on Thomas Greiss last season, and their invariably calm netminder picked up right he where he left off.
Greiss made 35 saves and Josh Bailey, Brock Nelson and Anders Lee scored second-period goals to the lead the Islanders past the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 last night.
