Town to purchase equipment for new fire truck
The town has a recommendation to approve the purchase of additional equipment for the new triple combination custom lumber fire truck at tonight's council meeting.
The cost of the additional equipment is just over $7,000, bringing the total net tender cost of the fire truck to over $600,000.

Lakers drop pair to start pre-season
It was a tough weekend to start the SIJHL pre-season schedule for the Fort Frances Lakers.
The Dryden GM Ice Dogs beat the Lakers by scores of 6-3 and 3-0 to sweep the weekend home-and-home series.
Six different skaters tallied for the Ice Dogs to help them double the Lakers 6-3 in the pre-season opener for both teams Friday night at the Ice For Kids Arena.
Dixon on stage

Canadian rock icon Carl Dixon thrilled the crowd at the Townshend Theatre for the first show of the 2019-2020 Tour De Fort season on Thursday evening. Dixon spoke at length about his career and near-fatal car accident in 2008, all the while playing hits from his time in Coney Hatch, April Wine and The Guess Who. The next Tour De Fort performance is Ken Lavigne on Oct. 10.

Nick Hahkala jostled for position with his Dryden GM Ice Dogs' opponent in an attempt to win the face-off to start the second period of the Fort Frances Lakers' 6-3 loss in the SIJHL pre-season opener on Friday night at the Ice For Kids Arena. The Ice Dogs then blanked the Lakers 3-0 the following night in Dryden to sweep the home-and-home series.
Football training
Members of the Muskie football team were hard at work during one of their annual training camp practices on Friday afternoon here, running tackling drills and working on other areas of their game. The Muskies are slated to open the WHSFL season on the road this Friday (Sept. 13) when they head to Winnipeg to take on the Springfield Collegiate Sabres in a Currie Division ('A') clash.
