Hospital workers slated to hold rallies
Hospital workers across Ontario, including in Fort Frances, Emo, and Rainy River, are slated to take part in a rally tomorrow (April 18) from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. to bring public attention to the fact they want hospital employers to bargain fairly.
Unifor, Resolute ink deal
Pattern bargaining for Eastern Canada's pulp and paper sector has concluded with a four-year tentative agreement between Unifor and Resolute Forestry Products.
“Pulp and paper jobs sustain communities large and small across Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic,” said Unifor national president Jerry Dias.
Four crashes in short span
Members of the Marathon and Manitouwadge OPP detachments responded to four separate motor-vehicle collisions that occurred on Highway 17 in just over a four-hour period.
Yesterday around 9:25 p.m., officers attended a single motor-vehicle collision near the Prairie River bridge.
The vehicle left the roadway, coming to rest in the ditch, with no injuries to the occupants.
Board to review Lenten projects
The Northwest Catholic District School Board will review the 2018 Lenten School Report, which looks at the many activities, prayers, and reflections teachers delivered in their classroom, during its regular monthly meeting tonight.
Many of the board's schools began their Lenten practices with a Shrove Tuesday pancake breakfast, followed by an Ash Wednesday service the next day.

MONTREAL — Unifor says it has reached a tentative deal with Resolute Forest Products Inc. that, once approved, will serve as a pattern agreement for workers at pulp and paper mills across the Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic regions.
