Women's work clothes wanted

When you're going for a job interview or starting a new job, it's important to look the part.

Unfortunately, having the right clothes isn't always easy for women who can't afford them or, due to other circumstances, have had to leave their possessions and relocate.

Snow at mailboxes not the town's fault

While some residents have complained about snow being plowed and piled up in front of community mailboxes here, and impeding easy access, don't blame the town—it's not their responsibility.

Operations and Facilities manager Travis Rob clarified this morning that the Town of Fort Frances has an agreement with Canada Post regarding the mailboxes and snow removal is not part of it.

Arctic Cat comes up short of second victory

Arctic Cat fought hard throughout but came out on the wrong side of the scoresheet once again in Fort Frances Men's Basketball League action Tuesday night at Fort High.

Coming into the final game of the night at the bottom of the league standings, Arctic Cat was hungry for a win but also looking to field a full team for the entire 40 minutes.

The Fort Frances Lakers knew it wasn't going to be their night early on in the first period.

That was made quite evident to them by the front-running Thief River Falls Norskies, who stormed out to an early four-goal lead en route to a 7-1 romp Tuesday night at the Ice For Kids Arena.

It was the Lakers' second-straight loss following a season-high four-game winning streak.

Fort Frances Lakers' forward Christian Ward broke his way in on Thief River Falls Norskies' goalie Jackson Nelson for a scoring chance during his team's 5-4 loss to the visitors Tuesday night at the Ice For Kids Arena. The Lakers, who now have dropped two-straight games following a season-high four-game winning streak, next host the Thunder Bay North Stars tomorrow night. See story on P2.

FOND DU LAC, Sask.—Survivors of a plane crash in a remote community in northern Saskatchewan have filed a class-action lawsuit alleging the airline was negligent.

The claim against West Wind Aviation and Athabasca Basin Development, the airline's majority shareholder, alleges their acts or omissions harmed those on the plane.

TORONTO—Rising interest rates could have a “significant” impact on Ontario's economy as the already ballooning household debt is projected to continue to grow, the province's fiscal watchdog warns.

The Financial Accountability Office said in a report released Tuesday that an average Ontario household owed nearly $154,000 in 2016, up from $119,000 in 2010.

CALGARY — A coalition of First Nations is raising funds to mount a legal challenge to the proposed oil-tanker ban on B.C.’s north coast.

The challenge is coming from the backers of the proposed Eagle Spirit pipeline, a First Nation-led project that would bring oil from Alberta to the northern West Coast.

My grandmother used to make jam every year out of the summer bounty of berries. It was a multi-day project involving scorching-hot vats of berries, thickened by pectin and pounds of white sugar, which she balanced with the tang of lemon or lime juice. A simple slab of toasted country bread slathered with her homemade jam and some salted butter was my favourite way to start the day.
