Rain is in the forecast and is expected to reduce the forest fire hazard to “low” heading into the weekend.
But until the rain crosses the region, there still were “high” fire hazards forecast for the northern sectors.
No new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region yesterday.

Tickets for gala likely to go fast
The Riverside Foundation for Health Care's special events committee is excited to announce that tickets now are on sale for its upcoming fall gala.
This magical event, entitled “Making Magic for District Health Care,” will take place Saturday, Oct. 14 at La Place Rendez-Vous.
A total of 180 tickets are available at $55 each. Tables of eight or 10 also are available.

TORONTO—The union representing faculty at Ontario's 24 public colleges says they have voted in favour of a strike mandate should upcoming contract talks fail to result in a new agreement.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union said 68 percent of its members voted in favour of a strike mandate ahead of collective bargaining scheduled to resume next week.
NDP call for expanded public inquiry
TORONTO—Ontario's New Democrats say they want to expand the scope of a public inquiry into safety and security in the province's long-term care homes.
NDP leader Andrea Horwath said the party has introduced a private member's bill that will ask the government to broaden its approach while reviewing the system.

Improvised bomb injures 22 on London subway train
