Unique ballet coming to Backus
The Backus Community Center in International Falls is pleased to announce the James Sewell Ballet and its performance of “Band It” is coming this Saturday (Feb. 4) at 7 p.m.
This is a unique ballet performance compared to contemporary ballet. It is set to the driving rhythms of American band music and incorporates hover boards, colour guard flags, and giant inflatable water balls.

Local art therapist Lindsay Hamilton was sorting through magazine clippings for collage-making this morning as part of an art project in Christa Gibson's Grade 8 class at Robert Moore School. She was to work with other classes throughout the day.
Tight fight for second
Kiss My Pass and No Diggity matched each other with the maximum six points last night as they remained locked in a battle for second place in the Fort Frances Women's Volleyball League.
Kiss My Pass now has 72 points to lead No Diggity by just one.

Lakers awarded win
On Wednesday, the Dryden GM Ice Dogs were thrilled with word they'll be hosting next year's Dudley Hewitt Cup.
The news was less than enjoyable earlier today.
The SIJHL announced the Ice Dogs' 3-1 win Monday against the visiting Fort Frances Lakers will be forfeited due to Dryden using an ineligible player.

Pigs killed in barn fire
PLYMPTON-WYOMING, Ont.—Nearly 4,000 pigs were killed when a fire destroyed a large barn in southwestern Ontario earlier this week.
The OPP said the blaze broke out just before 9 a.m. on Tuesday and quickly spread throughout the barn in the town of Plympton-Wyoming, east of Sarnia.
At the time of the fire, the barn held about 4,000 pigs, all of which were killed.
Disabled teen left on cold bus
TORONTO—A Toronto mother says her disabled daughter is still traumatized more than a week after being forgotten on board a school bus and left in the cold for six hours.
Laura Mastache said her daughter, Wendy, who has both autism and epilepsy, has been noticeably more reserved and withdrawn since the incident Jan. 23.
O'Leary slammed for timing of gun video
OTTAWA—Conservative leadership candidate Kevin O'Leary says he took down an Internet video of himself firing automatic weapons out of “respect” for the memorial to three of the six victims of the weekend massacre at a Quebec City mosque.
The video depicted O'Leary firing a variety of high-powered weapons—including machine guns and an assault rifle—during a visit to a Miami gun range.
Kuchar soars to first-round lead
