Somber moment

Cde. Robert Boland, representing the Royal Canadian Air Force, laid a wreath, accompanied by Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 member Ed Haglund, during the annual Remembrance Day ceremonies held earlier today at the Fort Frances cenotaph. Sunny skies and a relatively calm breeze greeted the large crowd that gathered to honour those who gave their lives in service to our nation.
Chamber offers input
The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce is asking to be included in any future discussions regarding the town’s business licensing bylaw after an updated version was defeated by council at its Oct. 24 meeting.
‘Bikes’ bake sale set
The Church of the Holy Spirit is holding a bake sale tomorrow (Nov. 12) to raise money and awareness about “Bicycles for Humanity.”
It is being held in conjunction with the “Walkin’ in a Winter Vendorland” event that goes from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Couchiching multi-use facility.
Lakers edge Miners
The Fort Frances Lakers finally may have turned a corner that didn’t have a locomotive coming from the other direction.
Dylan Kooner made a successful return to the lineup by scoring the game-winning goal in the third period as the Lakers edged the host English River Miners 3-2 in SIJHL action last night.
Champs take the lead
Defending league champion How I Set Your Mother earned the maximum six points last night to surge atop the Fort Frances Women’s Volleyball League standings with 39 in all.
Kiss My Pass dropped down to second place (37), followed by No Diggity (36) and Let’s Talk About Sets (29).
There’s a tightly-bunched group next in line as Scared Hitless sits is fifth place (24).

Students were asked to share photos of family members who have served in the war or are currently in the military.

After seven times as finalists for the National Toy Hall of Fame, the tiny tenants of Fisher-Price’s house, barn and school bus were enshrined on Thursday.
They were joined by the swing and Dungeons & Dragons in the hall’s class of 2016.
Mini pies take centre stage as holiday dessert option
When I have a lot of people coming over, I love to make mini pies, or “pie cups.” I coined the name “pie cup” when I created a “pie program” for one of my restaurants and vowed to make pie the new cupcake in NYC.
