Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre board chair Andrew Hallikas presented a cake to outgoing library CEO Alicia Subnaik Kilgour during a farewell reception there yesterday afternoon. She will assume her new role as CEO of several library branches in the Niagara region next week while the new head of the local library is expected to be named within the next few weeks.
Henry survives island exile
In the latest challenge to crown “Canada’s Greatest Explorer,” local resident Joshua Henry and the remaining seven competitors had to survive for 24 hours on a remote island on Lac Saint-Jean, Que.
They were required to demonstrate their skills in four survival criteria: building a fire, finding food, building a shelter, and creating a rescue signal.
Make ’n bake
Amy Norris looked on as instructor Meghan Spooner taught those attending the “Make ’N Bake” camp how to cover a cake in fondant yesterday. The group spent the week learning about making and decorating cookies, cupcakes, and cakes, which culminated with a tea and certificate presentation today.
Tips on break-in sought
The Rainy River District OPP currently is investigating a break and enter to a business on the 100 block of Scott Street in Fort Frances.
The break-in took place sometime between 6 p.m. on July 12 and 7 a.m. on July 14.

Male facing charges
Members of the Treaty #3 Police Service South Sub-Division were dispatched to a reported altercation at a Couchiching First Nation residence last Friday evening.
An investigation revealed a male had assaulted a female and then seriously injured a male, who was taken to La Verendrye Hospital for treatment.

Psychologist faces sentencing for 1995 killing in California
