Gil Hayes of Edmonton was fishing with his niece, local resident Teresa Bolen, from shore near the Crow Rock bridge recently when this cute little red fox joined them. Hayes is a retired wrestler who was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame. He grew up here before going on to wrestle elsewhere in Canada, as well as in South America, Japan, Hawaii, and Florida.

Plans are shaping up for Canada Day.

The Fun in the Sun committee and others are working on a slew of activities for families to do here.

“We have been meeting every week now, planning for July 1,” committee chair Cynthia Donald told the Times earlier this week.

“Things are starting to come together,” she added.

Man’s death probed

The OPP was asked Tuesday to assist the Lac Seul Police Service in connection with the death of 56-year-old Lac Seul First Nation resident Donald Wesley.

Under the direction of the coroner, a post-mortem examination was conducted at Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora.

The cause of death is not being released at this time.

Fire scene starting to heat up

Three new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region yesterday.

Dryden Fire #16, located near Blue Lake Provincial Park, was listed as “not under control” at last report.

The 0.1-hectare blaze was human-caused.

Sioux Lookout Fire #12, located near Angling Lake First Nation, also was “not under control” at 0.1 ha in size.

Sunny Cove future

The town’s Kiwanis Sunny Cove Advisory Committee invited the public to provide input on the future of the camp as it investigates the long-term use and potential of the camp for youth programming and economic development.

Any concerns about the Fort Frances Lakers’ goaltending situation heading into next season just got alleviated.

The Lakers announced today that goalie Brandon Bodnar will be back this fall—solidifying the position after the departure of starter Pierce Dushenko.

Bodnar, 18, will enter his third year with the squad after dressing as an emergency back-up in 2014-15.

Estrada had another sharp outing, and Edwin Encarnacion and Josh Donaldson hit solo homers, as the Toronto Blue Jays dumped the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 last night.

Estrada (5-2) allowed two runs and four hits while striking out five in 6 2/3 innings.

Nats rally twice to beat Cubs
