Deb Cornell displayed her Rainy River Elk Company products at the Clover Valley Farmers’ Market’s annual Easter Market on Saturday—the final market at the McIrvine Road location. The farmers’ market announced earlier this month that it would be closing its doors, and selling the land and buildings, due to it consistently losing money in recent years.

Town council will hear a presentation from two local residents regarding change rooms at the Memorial Sports Centre during its regular meeting tonight.

Cathie Sinninghe and Lindsay Strickland are scheduled to speak at 6:30 p.m.

The committee of the whole will hold a budget meeting first starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Fort Frances Choraliers performed a pair of songs during the Fort Frances Kiwanis Club’s annual Good Friday breakfast at La Place Rendez-Vous. About 80 people attended the breakfast, which also featured guest speaker Rev. MJ D. Leewis-Kirk of St. John’s Anglican Church. In related news, the Choraliers will perform their Easter cantata this Sunday (April 3) at 3 p.m.

Minerva picked as top blueliner

It was one of the easier choices of the Junior ‘A’ hockey awards season.

Fort Frances Lakers’ blueliner Nick Minerva not surprisingly was selected as the SIJHL-Gongshow Gear best defenceman award winner earlier today.

The 20-year-old from New Brunswick, N.J. wound up with 73 points in 52 games to lead all defencemen not only in the SIJHL but in the entire CJHL.

AUSTIN, Man.—RCMP say an autopsy has confirmed that a Manitoba boy whose body was found in a creek Saturday drowned.

Chase Martens walked away from his family home near Austin last Tuesday—prompting an extensive search involving hundreds of people.

An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the cause of death, police said today.

Public has chance to pay respects to Ford

Toronto Mayor John Tory has paid his respects to Rob Ford as his late predecessor lies in repose at city hall.

Tory was first to pause briefly at Ford’s casket today.

The mayor then spoke to the Ford family as they received well-wishers.

Other councillors and dignitaries followed Tory in passing by the casket and greeting family members.

Vancouver’s march to the draft lottery continued yesterday as the Canucks lost their eighth-straight game—falling 3-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks after a late go-ahead goal from Andrew Ladd.

Ladd scored the game-winner with just over two minutes to go in the third period as the visitors salvaged a critical win while keeping the Canucks at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.
