Held in celebration of International Women’s Day, those on hand are learning new techniques for self-care, including art, movement, and mediation.

Water system scores top marks

The town’s water treatment plant got a nearly perfect score after a Ministry of the Environment inspection late last year.

The town scored 97 percent on its MoE 2015/16 drinking water inspection report after an announced detailed inspection, which was conducted Nov. 30-Dec. 1.

Mayor Roy Avis applauded the high score during last night’s regular council meeting.

‘Red’ splits pair

After emptying the gas tank to win their first game, Team Red had no time to refuel before its second one.

The result was a convincing 111-73 victory for first-place Team Black in Fort Frances Men’s Basketball League action last night at Fort High.

Team Red (6-9) missed its first 10 shots yet only trailed by six points after the first three minutes.

Muskie boys nab win

OTTAWA—The Muskie boys’ hockey team survived a late comeback attempt by the General Amherst Bulldogs (Amherstburg) to earn a 3-2 victory this morning at the OFSAA ‘A/AA’ championships in Ottawa.

“We hung on,” Muskie head coach Jamie Davis said with a laugh.

“I thought we played really good.”

But Davis was less pleased with the efforts of the referees.

Curlers open with wins

Chris Silver and Erin Tomalty no longer have a zero in their career OFSAA win column.

Silver, skipping the first Muskie boys’ rink to reach the all-Ontarios since 2011, edged the Frank J. Hayden Huskies (Burlington) 5-4 in their only game yesterday.

Accompanied by The No. 2-seeded rink in Pool ‘D,’ the Muskies were up two coming home without hammer.

Wynne defends fundraiser dinner

TORONTO—Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne denies a $6,000-a-head dinner co-sponsored with a high-powered lobbying firm is selling access to herself and her cabinet ministers.

Wynne said it’s her responsibility as a leader of a party to raise money—calling it part of the democratic process—and pointing out that all political parties in Ontario do both “high-end and low-end” fundraising.

He has picked up some big wins this season and is skipping the top-ranked team in the country.

Gushue also is off to a great start at the national men’s curling championship and looks primed to be in the mix come playoff time.

Dickey sharp in start

DUNEDIN, Fla.—R.A. Dickey tossed three scoreless innings, and Michael Saunders hit his third homer in as many games, as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Atlanta Braves 3-1 yesterday.

Dickey, the 2012 NL Cy Young Award winner, allowed one hit to Gordon Beckham to open the third.

The knuckleballer threw 31 pitches and walked just one.
