Zoning bylaw amendment in the works
The Town of Fort Frances is looking to amend the current zoning bylaws around tenting and camping on residential and non-residential areas.
Cody Vangel, chief building official and municipal planner, said rather than formatting an entire new bylaw, they looked at other municipalities’ bylaws and templates regarding administering tenting.

Senior Companion Project to begin friendly call program
The Senior Companion Project began matching seniors with volunteers for the friendly phone call program after COVID-19 prevented both volunteers and seniors to meet in person.
Andrea Avis, coordinator of the Senior Companion Project, said the friendly phone call program is to alleviate some people’s feeling of loneliness and isolation who are living in their own homes.

The Township of Alberton’s Volunteer Fire Department is working with Enbridge Gas to improve home safety and bring fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths down to zero.
Carbon monoxide is a toxic, odourless gas that is a byproduct of incomplete combustion of many types of common fuels.

Senior centre navigating COVID-19 restriction
It has been almost six months since the province of Ontario restricted indoor gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The repercussions of this for the Fort Frances Senior Centre, also known as the Sister Kennedy Centre, meant that bingo nights, Thursday lunches and coffee hangouts were no longer possible.
